Apollo Hearings: Success Will Follow New Studies & Tests
"Astronaut Walter Schirra testifies to a Congressional subcommittee that the recent Apollo flash-fire disaster has, indeed, shaken the confidence of U.S. spacemen in the Apollo program. We suffered a very grievous accident from something we thought wouldn't happen. From that point on we've had many different tests performed on flammability of materials. We've discovered that many of the materials must be changed. When these are changed & when tests are completed on the new materials, our confidence is restored."

London Couturier - Michael
London s Couturier, Michael shows his spring collection which has obvious strong influences drawn from the 1920s. He brings back belted waists, fringe scarves for v-necklines and cloche hats. For evening wear, a silk-satin dinner dress with a sequin studded cloche. Two models stand at a fountain; both are wearing lightly woven woolen suits. Cycle -Cross Championship
The 17th Annual Cycle-Cross Championship race is held at Zurich, Switzerland. This rare sport combines cycle racing and cross-country running while carrying the bike! The fifteen-mile distance is covered swiftly by winner Renato Longo of Italy. Throngs of bicycle enthusiasts cheer on the athletes as the race begins. Photographers, sport fans and the back sides of the bicyclers. The cyclists are riding on grass and come to a hill. They jump off their bikes and carry the bikes on their backs as they trudge their way up the hill. The cyclists are back on their bikes riding downhill. 1 hour 17 minutes and 32 1/2 -seconds later the winner of the race crosses the finish line. Renato Longo of Italy is the winner. CU Renato, he is dirty, tired and happy.
Luge Sledders of Europe
The World Tobogganing Championship at Hammarstrand, Sweden brings out the top luge sledders of Europe. Harold Elder represents the United States. Thomas Koehler, East Germany's Olympic Champ is the winner with a total time of 232-3/4 seconds on four runs. CU sledder is waxing the blades of his luge. High Angle shot a sledder riding down the track at a very fast speed. He is laying on his back on his luge. The track at the World Tobogganing Championship is very, very fast and dangerous. Viet Sweep - Troops Take Cong Stronghold
"Operation Pershing" sweeps across the Bong Son Plain in South Vietnam, to route a huge Viet Cong force. Village civilians are caught between the two fighting forces and several Viet Cong suspects are found, injured Villagers treated, and the village is burned. Aerial shot of land that was once used for farming. The crops grow in rows. Rear shot of three US 1st Cavalry soldiers, one is laying on his stomach; one is crouched under a palm tree;the last kneels by some tall grass. High Angle Shot an explosion from a hand grenade, land mine or small rocket. Two soldiers, one kneeling and one stands, at the bottom of a knoll with riffles in their hands. Enemy suspects use grenades, automatic weapons and land mines to slow the advance of US Cavalry Divisions. They are taken as prisoners by the US Cavalry soldiers. Walking through a lot of smoke, the soldiers slowly walk into the village. A mother comes out of a grass hut with one baby in her arms and another child at her side. CU the soldiers burn down the village so it can't be used as a base of operations by the VC. Mother with two children, in the background as their hut is being turned to rubble. CU an old lady looking at the burning of her village. Her memories turn to ash. Two soldiers and a burning inferno is taking place behind them. Home From The Sea - Aircraftcarrier The Coral Sea
U.S. attack carrier, Coral Sea is welcomed home to San Francisco after 109 days of war in Vietnam. Five thousand loved ones greet the happy crew. Fifteen pilots do not return. The carrier launched 83 hundred combat sorties against North Vietnam. Aerial shot an aircraft carrier named The Coral Sea comes home from Vietnam. CU Sailors in dress uniform. LBJ Signs A Vital Piece of Legislation
At the White House a vital piece of legislation reaches President Johnson's desk. It's the 25th Constitutional Amendment, providing for the replacement of any disabled President or the filling of any Vice Presidency vacancy. The President points out that 16 times the U.S. has been without a Vice President. Quaker Mission
Seven American pacifists sail out of Japan aboard the yacht "Phoenix" bound for the North Vietnamese part of Haiphong. Despite Red Cross warnings and without State Department clearance, the Quaker-sponsored group intends to bring medical supplies. A yacht the "Phoenix of Hiroshima" docked alongside a pier in a Japanese harbor. CU Name of the yacht. A flag with a double star. CU the Quakers both men and women. First International Paper Plane Contest
The First International Paper Airplane contest draws eleven thousand entries from all over the world. Four divisions of completion: duration aloft, distance flown, aerobatic, and origami (the Japanese art of paper folding). It's a fantastic "fly-off!" Cut outs of white paper airplanes. Camera panning the paper planes lay out on a long rectangular table. One of the judges launches the planes in flight by the flick of his wrist. CU Paper plane in flight. It s a short flight. The judge launches another plane and this one turns out to be the winner. The plane travels 91 feet and is called Leonardo. Judges sit and evaluate the flights and designs of the paper planes. Judge launches a rectangular flying wing which stays aloft the longest over 10 seconds.

Christian Dior's summer line of hats draws inspiration from Africa, complimenting current Kaftan and Bou Bou dress fashions. Dior's colors capture African sunsets and greenery, his styling s the continent's mystery and allure. Exterior shot of the House of Christian Dior Chapeau. Figure Skating - First Canadian Winter Games
Dazzling figure skating highlights the First Canadian Winter Games at Quebec City. The games are patterned as a "minor Olympics". Ontario is the overall winner as Pair Dance and Men and Women's Figure Skating gold medalists cut the ice. At Canadian Ice Dancing Championship, Maureen Peter and Wayne Palmer dance and glide across the ice. Miss Cathy Lee Erving takes the gold medal in Class A, Solo Figure Skating. Canadian figure skating champion, Toller Cranston shakes across the ice.
Motorcycle
The Third International Winter Motocross Motorcycle race is a tricky and dangerous sport in Vimperk, Czechoslovakia. The top riders of Europe are entered, and battle snow, mud, jumps, and bumps in a rugged race. Motorcyclists take off at the starting line on a snow packed raceway.
