"A record field of 601 run the classic marathon distance from Newton to Boston in the 71st running of the event. The winner: Dave McKenzie of New Zealand, shaving 48 seconds off the record. Switzer"; when it was discovered that a woman had infiltrated the exclusively male race, judges were sent to take off Kathrine Switzer's number, but to no avail; she was disqualified but finished the race nonetheless). - Tracking shots Boston marathoners competing, one shot with a spunky German Shepherd dog in the lead. "Spring arrived in New York but brings with it an unseasonal snowfall of up to ten inches: traffic is clogged, buses, trains, and airlines delayed. Airliner Crash: 129 Killed in Tourist Flight
"A Swiss charter airliner is hit by lighting over Cyprus' mountains and crashes into a hillside, killing all aboard except four of the crew. It's the worst air disaster in Cyprus history; and one of the worst serious in civil aviation. Most of the victims were Swiss and German tourists returning from a cut-rate tour of the Far East Panning TLS - Debris & wreckage strewn along hillside, stop at remnants of engine. VTOL XM-2 Skycar
"A Canadian professor of Aeronautics at the University of California demonstrates his flying saucer. It hovers three-feet off the ground, in a five minute test flight. Powered by two motorcycle engines, it's the predecessor of a two-seat saucer which might replace the car and/or helicopter. MS VTOL XM-2 Skycar parked on tarmac. MSs - XM-2 inventor & aeronautics professor Dr. PAUL MOLLER boarding Skycar. TLS - Mild crowd standing behind cordon. TLS/MSs - VTOL XM-2 Skycar hovering over ground, wobbling significantly, looking like a genuine flying saucer. MS -Pilot Dr, Paul Moller in cockpit, zoom out to TLS - Hovering craft.
Plane Crash
"At Austin, Texas, two crewmen of a sixteen hundred mile-an-hour jet reconnaissance plane were killed in a crash landing at Bergstrom Air Force Base. The plane struck a power line and set fire to a home after it careened from its course. Miraculously no one was injured on the ground. TLS - Firefighters racing about fire truck, fireball burning in nighttime sky in BG. TLS - Burning airplane wreck, flames shooting high. Cargo Transport Drop
"The Air Force breaks a world record by air-dropping the single heaviest unit ever! It's a twenty-five ton package, kept level during the low-altitude drop by four parachutes. It's the Air Force's latest technique for air dropping heavy equipment, even into a battle zone. LS - Four propeller United States Air Force C-130 Hercules cargo plane coming in for an apparent landing. Excellent head-on TLS C-130 flying low to ground, dropping heavy cargo on which are attached four parachutes. Panning LS - Cargo sliding 700' on ground, eventually coming to stop. TLSs - Heavy cargo on ground.

"In London, an all-electric motorcycle is demonstrated, as mini-transport for city dwellers. It runs on re-chargeable batteries, can do thirty, costs less than 300 dollars, weighs only 130 pounds and can be tucked in an automobile trunk. "Proud Clarion at 30 to 1 wins $162,000 and the Roses in the 93rd running of the Kentucky Derby. National Guardsmen patrolled, in case of racial demonstrations. Churchill Downs is treated to a great, driving stretch run by the big bay colt from the Darby Dan Farm. He posts the third fastest time in Derby history!.. New "Dream Highway" Is Opened First projected half a century ago, the Trans-Canada Highway is officially opened as the last section in British Columbia is dedicated by the Prime Minister. Airbase Shelled: Soviet Rockets Used In Attack
Military transport planes sitting on the tarmac at Da Nang Air Base. Several military buildings destroyed or heavily damaged. High Angle Shot Aftermath of the two-hundred homes that were leveled in a nearby village. Mostly women wondering aimlessly among their demolished homes totally traumatized. People sit among their pulverized village making the best of it, looking for anything that is salvageable. Man pouring a bucket of water on smoldering fire on the little remains of his home. A mother holds her baby and her toddler stands near-by. Villagers stand looking at the covered remains of their family and friends, some children in the crowd of people. "very disturbing sight" A woman holding her coolie hat wiping her crying eyes, you can see her emotional pain. Woman kneeling on the ground sobbing to her left three children and one of the little girl's is leaning over looking at the heavily saddened woman.
