"Operation Pershing" sweeps across the Bong Son Plain in South Vietnam, to route a huge Viet Cong force. Village civilians are caught between the two fighting forces and several Viet Cong suspects are found, injured Villagers treated, and the village is burned. Aerial shot of land that was once used for farming. The crops grow in rows. Rear shot of three US 1st Cavalry soldiers, one is laying on his stomach; one is crouched under a palm tree;the last kneels by some tall grass. High Angle Shot an explosion from a hand grenade, land mine or small rocket. Two soldiers, one kneeling and one stands, at the bottom of a knoll with riffles in their hands. Enemy suspects use grenades, automatic weapons and land mines to slow the advance of US Cavalry Divisions. They are taken as prisoners by the US Cavalry soldiers. Walking through a lot of smoke, the soldiers slowly walk into the village. A mother comes out of a grass hut with one baby in her arms and another child at her side. CU the soldiers burn down the village so it can't be used as a base of operations by the VC. Mother with two children, in the background as their hut is being turned to rubble. CU an old lady looking at the burning of her village. Her memories turn to ash. Two soldiers and a burning inferno is taking place behind them. CU little Vietnamese girl crying holding her shoes watching her village burn. CU US soldiers carrying a woman and a child who are injured and traumatized by the war.
