The committee will come to order. Senator Baker. Senator Howard Baker (R Tennessee). Mr. Chairman, thank you very much. Mr. McCord, you've covered your testimony at rather great length, and we have had the questions now of counsel and of the chairman. I will try to confine my questions to an elaboration or an extension of those subjects that you have already covered, for the sake of developing either further information or a clearer understanding of those things that have already been touched. Without trying to retrace your steps, I wish you would tell me again if this is a fair summation and narrative of your testimony. That you worked for the FBI, that you worked for the CIA for 19 years, that you worked for the Committee for the Re-Election of the President, in a consultative capacity and then as their security officer, that you involved yourself in certain electronics surveillance operations under the direction of Mr. Liddy and Mr. Hunt and possibly others, that you were one of those found inside the Watergate complex, the Democratic National Committee in the early morning hours of June 17, 1972; that you were taken to jail; that you were subsequently released on bond, there were subsequent conversations by telephone from an unidentified person, and from a Mr. Caulfield with respect to how you should conduct yourself specifically suggesting that you should plead guilty; that you were led to believe, at least, that there would be a promise of Executive clemency, that your family would be taken care of while you were in jail, when you were released that, you would have a job, that you pled innocent at the trial instead of guilty, one of the two who pled innocent; that you were convicted on a multi-count indictment, that you are now awaiting sentence; that you have interviewed previously with this committee in executive session and with the staff of this committee on a previous occasion; that you now appear to testify before us without any grant of immunity from this committee, although you are convicted of crimes involving much of the material presumably about which you testified. I don't mean that to be an absolute recapitulation of your testimony, but is that generally a fair statement of your involvement? James McCord. I think basically, yes sir. Howard Baker (R Tennessee). Could we start at the beginning, Mr. Hunt, and tell us what your Job was with the CIA. I mean James McCord. I am sorry. [Laughter] I do not know who I am sorry to, but I am sorry. James McCord. My duties were generally in the security field as a security officer there with the agency and with which I served for some 19 years, in which I served in the United States and overseas that covered a wide variety of duties related to that function within that Federal agency. I am met, and I am at a loss how to proceed in detail on that activity because of the numerous secrecy agreements which I signed and which I understand I am in violation of the National Security Act if I disclose in public testimony.
Universal City Film Studio Fire
Wind-Whipped flames destroy ten acres and one million dollars worth of TV and film sets at Universal City Studios in Hollywood. Among those destroyed: "Laramie"..."Laredo" and "The Virginian"...as well as the European Street set for the classic war film, "All Quiet On The Western Front." Production not affected; Studio Tours continue; sets are immediately rebuilt. Establishing shot - Billowing black and fiery incrusted smoke raising into the sky. The water from fire truck snorkel is shooting water on to the fire. High Angle shot - Some of the movie sets with houses are engulfed in flames. Low Angle shot - One of the studio building's burning, black smoke pouring out .MS - One of the Western type house's completely engulfed in flames. MS - A European style home with a fountain in front is completely engulfed in flames. Back shot - Fireman watching a set burn down, there is nothing he can do. Low Areal shot - The movie sets in the movie town of Universal are burning, some people walking around.
Former President Eisenhower's Paintings
Former President Eisenhower shows some of his paintings at a New York exhibition. They included still life, landscapes, and portraits; one of them, Churchill. Ike calls his art just "daubs." Equestrian Show
Anton Ebben of Holland wins the Grand Prize at the International Riding Tournament in Wiesbaden, Germany. America's Kathy Kusner gives a great performance but one "fault" plunges her to fourth place. Second, West Germany; third, Japan. Opening shot - A gentleman equestrian rider takes his firs successful jump on his horse. High Angle shot - Audience. MS - Low Angle - The next competitor rides his horse jumping over two fences and one bar. MS - The next gentleman jumper takes his horse over hedges, fences and bars. MS - America's lady rider on her horse "Untouchable" makes some clean jumps on her steed. Low Angle shot - Anton Ebben of Holland wins, sitting on his steed accepting his grand prize.
Frog Jumping
Mark Twain's mythical "Calaveras County" and the famous leaping frog competition has a modern counterpart in a U.S. Army sponsored preliminary in Frankfurt, Germany. The winner: 8 year old Jason Waterhouse whose frog, "King", leaped over ten feet. They'll both go to California for the finals. Establishing shot - In an open field in Frankfurt, Germany stands a crowd of people encompassing men and boys who are bent down in the middle of the circle. CUS- Kids and grown-ups. CU - A big bull frog. CU - A teenage boy on his knees with a frog sitting on a lily pad, he raises his hands and hits the ground and the frog does nothing, just sits there. CU Front View - A frog with spots on his legs. CU - Another teenager places his frog on the lily pad, and gently blows on his back-side and the frog takes off. High Angle shot - Judge is measuring the length of the jump made by the frog.
Heavy Casualties In Vietnam
Marines use Vietnam church as emergency hospital, casualties, medics work. Wounded lie in pews; outside church Marines prepare for evacuation. Rescue chopper lands in field; wounded are brought to choppers. Establishing shot - A small Catholic Church somewhere in the back fields of South Vietnam, "An Wa"? Marines approaching the little church. High Angle shot - Marines carrying their wounded comrads approaching the church. CU - Two Marines and a wounded soldier in the middle making their way into the church for shelter, holding their rifles. Shots inside the church - Soldier laying on a pew, another soldier sitting in the aisle and another soldier laying on the floor. CU - Medics tending to a wounded soldier, the medic inserted an IV in the soldier's arm ( he is laying on the floor). Low Angle shot - A statue of Sacred Heart of Jesus.(the statue's right hand is missing) Medium shot from the back of the church - The inside of the church is filled up with soldiers suffering from battle fatigue, dirty from fighting, wounded and emotionally drained Marines. Exterior shot - Enemy fire, you see the explosions in the distance through the trees, a non-stop bombardment from the Vietcong air force. Low Angle shot - A statue, The Virgin Mary and Jesus. Exterior shot - Two days later the Marines evacuate the dead and wounded, a dead Marine covered being moved out of the church on a stretcher. MS - Two Marines walking , in the background the little Catholic Church. MS - Rescue chopper landed to evacuate the dead, and wounded . MS - Marines running to the Rescue helicopter carry wounded soldiers. MS - Rescue helicopter taking off.
Armed Forces Parade
(Unable to read xerox copy) It's 1967, New York and America is salutes it's military as the 18th Annual Armed Forces Day finds Manhattan 5th Avenue displaying wall to wall West Pointers'. Almost 3,000 Cadets step out smartly in full dress, all branches of the service are represented both in the reviewing stand and in the line of march. A Navy Polaris missile thrills the crowd. Colorful floats and a total of 7,000 marching men and women. Establishing shot - Marching Marine squadron and an Honor Guard follows behind carrying flags. MS - West Point Cadets all dressed up in their full dress uniforms. Look's like the March of the Wooden Soldiers. CU - Low Angle - Politicians and military top brass standing amongst the crowd of people applauding.. MS - The Navy Polaris Team and missile. Low Angle Shot - A float with a bee wearing a Sailor's hat standing on top of the world holding tools in its hands. MS - Here comes the Army marching squadron.
Hong Kong Riots
Chinese protest Hong Kong Government House to demand end to British rule. Marchers chant, insist these are commie mobs. Students post bills on walls while uniformed soldiers walk with tear gas guns. Mob is held at barricades and throw rocks. Cops chase mob down street. Exterior shots - British Government House, iron gates lock. CU - Thousands of protestors. CU - Chinese soldier standing guard holding a tear gas gun. MS - Thousands of students and pedestrians standing behind a police blockade "Danger" is printed on the police blockade. Students start to throw rocks. CU - One man is on his hands and knees bleeding from his face. MC - Chinese police retaliate by shooting tear gas and wooden bullets. Rear shot - Hundreds of police dressed in riot gear chasing the crowd. MS - Three riot police take a protestor down to the ground. CU - Two riot police has a protestor in a choke hold between them. MS - Car is turned up-side-down and set on fire. MS - Two riot police has a protestor between them, he looks like he's half knocked out as they walk.
Expo '67 "International and Universal Exposition"
