Blockade Lifted: President Reveals Red Plane Pull-out At his first news conference since the beginning of the Cuban Crisis, President Kennedy lifts the US Naval blockade of Cuba after Khrushchev gives his pledge that Soviet bombers will be out of Cuba in 30 days. Kennedy states, "I have today, been informed by Chairman Khrushchev that all the IL-28 ? bombers now in Cuba will be withdrawn in 30 days. He also agreed that these planes can be observed and counted as they leave.
