MacArthur Asks Nations Renounce War MSs General DOUGLAS MACARTHUR arriving to take the chair of the first meeting of the Allied control council for Japan in Tokyo. MSs Chinese & Soviet delegates. TLS/MSs General Douglas MacArthur speechifying: "I desire especially to mention that provision dealing with the renunciation of war. Such a renunciation, while in some respects a logical sequence to the destruction of Japan's war-making potential, goes yet further in its surrender of the sovereign right of resort to arms in the international sphere. I therefore commend Japan's proposal for the renunciation of war. It points the way. The UNO, admirable in its purpose, great and noble, can only survive to achieve that purpose & those aims if it accomplishes just what Japan proposes unilaterally."
