Stars On Parade: $1000,000 Fashion Show Honors "Chalk Garden"+
All the glamour of Hollywood is on display at Universal City as a parade of stars model $100,000 worth of gowns by 35 of the world's outstanding designers. It is a display that honors Universal's new movie "The Chalk Garden", the New Hollywood Museum is beneficiary. Bob Cummings. The 30th Annual Masters see Arnold Palmer turn in a four-round score of 12 strokes under par to win an unprecedented fourth Master's title. It's his first tourney victory in six months. The old "young master" seems on his way to rule the pro circuit once more. (A.P. is the first to make it four in the Master's). Palmer Takes His 4th Masters Golf Augusta, Georgia The 30th Master Golf Tournament and the course is filled with golf enthusiast. MS - Bruce Devlin chips on the 18th . MLS - 26 year old Devlin sinks his putt. MSOH - Jack Nicklaus plays a whirl wind round as he almost sinks his ball. CUS - Golf fans. MS - Arnold Palmer walking the course with his golf caddy. MS - Golf fans all smiling. MLS - The 30 year old Dave Marr trys to make a 25 foot put to tie Nicklaus and he makes it. MS - Arnold Palmer sinks a 20 foot birdie to wind up 12 strokes under Dave Marr. MS - Palmer receiving a hug from a guy with a straw hat, his caddy walking with a golf hole flag in hand, Palmer hands off his club to another caddy and they start walking down the course. Sports: Play Ball ! Time Is Here Again
In Washington it's proven again that despite the spring equinox, the season never really arrives until the President of the United States throws out the first ball at the opening game of the season. Mr. Johnson plays his role well. As usual, the Washington Senators go down to defeat as Los Angeles wins --- 4 to 0. Washington DC Washington DC baseball field opening day. Tons of baseball fans attend. MS - President Johnson arrives at the field to throw out the first baseball of the season. MS - The media with their cameras and all. Modern Marvel: Bridge Tunnel Cuts Travel On East Coast
Yes, Virginia, there is a bay bridge. The dream of many generations of Virginians comes true as the great Chesapeake Bay Bridge and tunnel complex is dedicated. The 18 mile crossing has four man-made islands connected by tunnels, trestles, causeway and two high-level steel bridges. It is the last link in the Eastern Coastal Highway. Water Pole Jumping
NO AUDIO In Holland, the pole-jumping National Championships bring out the best in this unique event. Unlike typical pole vaulting, contestants make a running start, take a flying leap over a ditch filled with water and grab onto a stationary pole in an attempt to make a dry landing on the opposite side. MS A crowd of people sitting on bleachers watching people take to the pole and jump to the other side without landing in the water below. A contestant runs towards the pole and gets hung up in the middle of the pond and ends up in the water. CUS enthusiastic spectators laugh and smile at the male contestant's failure in clearing the pond. A woman attempts to clear the pond on the pole and she makes it over. WS Spectators watching the events clapping. Another male contestant attempts the jump. He runs, leaps and grabs the pole before making a climbing maneuver and falls into the water with a splash. CUS crowds laughing and clapping in cheerful applause. A guy takes on the jump and lands not so gracefully on the shore. I don't just happen to have a lot of prepared material by me like my friend from Utah does, because to use one of the President's favorite words, the scenario has not been so well written over here, as it has been over there where this has been very carefully taken care of by the assistance of staff counsel and everyone has his piece. But, I think I can still read English unassisted, and I do not need a lot of reference I do not believe, to help convince any reasonably open minded person, if there is such a person on the committee, that this particular paragraph belongs out of here on a motion to strike. Honest to God, just ordinary garden variety principles, without much reference to the weighty matters we are dealing with, because it just does not have anything to do with what we are talking about. We should go back to the beginning of article I and see what we are discussing, The article starts out and it says that on June 17, 1972, agents of the Committee to Re-elect committed an illegal entry into the Democratic National Committee, Headquarters and subsequently thereto Mr. Nixon, pursuant to plan, and so forth, acting through various subordinates did various things to delay, impede and obstruct the investigation of such illegal entry. That is what this is all about. And to cover up and protect those responsible. Now, that is the gravamen of the charge, that he tried to obstruct the investigation of an illegal entry and protect, those responsible. Then they begin to spell out how that was done, not how something else was done, and you come down to this No. 8 and it says making false, or misleading public statements. I do not care whether false or misleading or not, our present 'purpose, is, the question is, do they obstruct the investigation of this break-in, and protect the people who did it? And it. says here not for what purpose, because I suppose anyone could see that that would not be very much for Obstructing an investigation of a break-in but for the purpose of deceiving the people of the, United States into believing that a thorough and complete investigation had been conducted when I Suppose in fact. it had not, been. Now, if that is any kind of a charge at, all, I certainly submit that it is not the charge of article 1. You could have just as false a statement and I would like, to make clear that I am not conceding there was any false statement. but for the sake of argument, you could have one and you could have one made for the purpose of making people think that there had been an investigation of this break-in and you still would not have any single thing which implemented the charge here, which Is obstructing the investigation of the break-in. What difference does it make what the old lady in Dubuque thinks about whether there is an investigation or not? The question is was there, and was something done which interfered with the investigation? The President of the United States could put anything he wanted to in all of the papers in the country and it would not interfere with that investigation which is what we are talking about here. This No. 8, whatever it is, just does not belong here as a specification. such as it is, of this particular charge. And I think my good friend from Alabama, whom I greatly love, respect, and admire, will vote with me, to strike this One because I just simply suggest and submit that there is not any logical grounds on which you can leave this monstrosity in here in this particular place. I just do not. see it. I yield to the gentleman from Mississippi. Mr. LOTT. I thank the. gentleman for Yielding. On this particular charge I think there are three things we should keep in mind. First a question. Did the President have knowledge that he was allegedly making false statements? Second, some of the arguments advocated in behalf of this section are actually true, and SO what? No Audio. The 209 thousand ton tanker, Idemitsu Maru, is launched in Yokohama, Japan. It's the biggest ship ever built by man. It'll carry oil from Persia to Japan. Vietnam Votes: Election First Step Toward Democracy
In South Vietnam, more than four million voters cast ballots to elect a Constituent Assembly. The elected assembly will create a new constitution and propose national elections. The heavy turnout at the polls is seen as a victory over Vietcong terror tactics. MS a city street in South Vietnam, people riding bikes, pedestrians walking and some driving. Gemini 11: Record Flight, Perfect Landing
Commanders Charles Conrad and Richard Gordon surpass all of America's previous space exploration flights in a three-day journey. This expedition has the first NASA computerized navigation for in orbit docking assistance and reentry as well as six other record breakers. MS Astronaut Charles Conrad on the left and Richard Gordon leave their Cape Kennedy living quarters on their way to suit up for their space flight. Astronaut Charles Conrad gets some assistance suiting up. ECU Charles Conrad putting on his helmet. Gordon relaxes in his spacesuit. The two astronauts suited up exit climb aboard a NASA truck that takes them to the launch site. The astronauts walk to the elevator to board Gemini 11 (Gemini XI, Gemini Eleven). Astronaut Gordon's spacewalk, the tethered Gemini vehicles spinning in space; and fantastic views from as high as 850 miles up are all included in official NASA in space films of Gemini 11's (Gemini XI, Gemini Eleven) flight. The automatic splashdown and recovery is also shown in close-up. POV behind Astronaut Commander Richard Gordon as he straddles the nose of Gemini XI. He floats tethered to Gemini 11 and Space Capsule Agena Target Vehicle. The combined ships practice a cartwheel maneuver. Circus Premiere: Moscow Troupe Thrills Cologne
Audio is German. A circus premieres in Cologne, West Germany, by the world-famous Moscow State Circus. Lions, tigers, daredevils, trapeze artists, and clowns dazzle a crowd of over five thousand on its third guest appearance in West Germany. MS A tiger ringmaster riding in a small cart pulled by two Bengal tigers and a Lion harnessed to the wagon. MS Four male gymnasts walk up to a round metal jungle gym type structure and turn with one hand. A Bengal Tiger walks on top of a round wheel with a Lion walking on the inside. Three Trapeze artists synchronize themselves to swing over a round metal bar. Two Bengal Tigers playing leap frog. The Trapeze artists are spinning, jumping and walking on gymnastic equipment. No Audio Southern California tops Texas before 42 thousand fans in Austin. Final score: Southern Cal 10, Texas 6. U.S.C.'s quarterback Troy Winslow scores after a field goal. For Texas, Bill Bradley tallies the only six points the Longhorns are able to notch. High Angle Shots of the USC and Texas college football players run on the field as the game is already in progress. The crowd is standing and cheering for their teams. High Angle Shot as the Quarterback NO 10 passes the football and it is picked up by a wide receiver, NO 82 before getting stopped. The kicker is called to the field and tries for a field goal.
