VC Mortars And Truce
In Saigon, Vietcong terrorists lob mortar shells at General Westmoreland's headquarters, missing and killing eight soldiers in an Army convoy. At the same time, VC guerrillas join government troops in the Mekong Delta for a Lunar Truce dinner invitation. A bombed out building. A man carried out by the Vietcong. Rescue workers picking through the rubble with a watchful eye looking for survivors. CU explosive shells that missed Brigadier General William Westmoreland US Army motorcade. Soldier walking on a make shift plank that is over the mud on the Mekong Delta River. Low Angle Shot South Vietnamese soldier holding an assault riffle standing at his post. Two Vietnamese Gorilla come ashore invited and greeted by South Vietnamese troops. The guerrilla checks his riffle in with the South Vietnamese soldier as a sign of peace. CU the Vietnamese guerrillas are given cigarettes as a sign of friendship, little children and members of the village stand around watching. CU the guerrillas are given food, beer, fish, spiced pork and cucumbers. The enemies share the same table but only briefly.
91st. Westminister Kennel Club
The 91st Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show attracts some 25 hundred champion canines to Madison Square Garden, New York. At the end of the two-day event, "Bardene Bingo", a black Scottish terrier is judged "Best of Show". Breeders and handlers are at their posted stations with their beloved dogs. Los Angeles Times Indoor Games
The Los Angeles Times Indoor Games attracts entries from throughout the world. In the pole vault, UCLA's Dick Railsback finishes second but is injured. Champion Bob Seagren clears seventeen feet, three inches, a world record height, but it's voided when his pole goes under the bar. Indoor track, an athlete in the center ring throws a shot put. Sport fans sit in the bleachers above watching the competitions. Dick Railsback runs with his pole aiming to master the high jump. He attempts to clear 17 feet on his jump but injures his back finishing second. Bob Seagren runs and clears a jump of 17 feet 3 inches. But his jump is nullified because his pole bent during the jump going under the bar. Seagren stands off to the side looking angry waving his arms.
Ski Jump Record
A 22-year old car salesman from Oslo, Norway sets a new world ski jump record at Oberstdorf, Germany. Daredevil Lars Grini leaps 492 feet and 2 inches beating the old record by more than thirteen feet. Ski jumpers come tearing down the ski jump and complete text book jumps. Daredevil Lars Grini comes down the jump and completes a 492 ft. jump, beating the old record. Lars Grini lands knowing he made a good jump holding his arm up in victory. CU Lars standing among the crowd, tired and exhausted and happy the jump is over.
Ice Skating Champs
At Montreal, the North American Figure Skating Championships produces winning form. Donald Knight of Dundas, Ontario, wins the men's crown while 19-year old World Champion, Peggy Fleming of Colorado Springs, Colorado, tops the Women's Division. Disciples of the ski cult find an excuse to celebrate the rites of spring. In wacky costumes to fit the mood and 65 degree weather they trip the snow fantastic with somersaulting and general clowning. Dancing skiers Frug on skis to the beat of a rock 'n roll band.
