Parliament
Queen Elizabeth opens Parliament, announcing that the House of Lords will lose its hereditary basis, an ancient tradition. She hopes for settlements in Vietnam and the Middle East, also. Four large white horses pull in Irish State Coach containing Queen Elizabeth II, Philip Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip and Princess Ann. The coach pulls into a courtyard of Parliament. A herd of ornately decorated horses escorts the coach down a street lined with bystanders. A big pomp-and-circumstance thing.
U.S. Planes Bomb Hanoi Bridge and Air Field
A North Vietnamese airfield is heavily damaged by U.S. jets while a bridge in Hanoi is destroyed for the second time. 134 enemy soldiers are wiped out by South Vietnamese in a six hour battle near Saigon. Title: "U.S. Planes Bomb Hanoi Bridge and Air Field." Aerial footage shows bombs striking targets. South Vietnam battle scene shows rubble and fallen buildings. Dead soldiers lie on the ground. Close-up of soldiers, arms, flame throwers and bombs.
Log-Rolling
In Tokyo, champion log-rollers keep the show spinning with a demonstration of skillful timer-twirling. Some use spikes and clamps on shoes, others do the trick barefoot! Sightseers taking in a log rolling competition line a waterway. Two rollers are atop a log. Close-up of the rollers' feet moving across a spinning log. A contestant falls. Russia
A half-century of Russian Communism is marked by a military parade through Red Square. On display for the first time, five new missiles, including one capable of orbiting a nuclear weapon. A panoramic view from atop a tall building shows thousands of soldiers marching through Red Square. Soviet leaders solute the parade. Flag bearers march. Crowd shots. Large military trucks carry missals past the crowd, including an inter-contential ballistic missile (ICBM).
