President Truman Speech on Atomic Energy President Harry S. Truman delivers speech regarding atomic energy at rally: "All mankind now stands in the doorway to destruction or upon the threshold upon the greatest age in history & I prefer to face that great age. Only a high moral standard can master this new power of the universe & develop it for the common good. When the sages & the scientists, the philosophers & the statesmen have all exhausted their studies of atomic energy, one solution & only one solution will remain. The substitution of decency & reason & brotherhood for the rule of force in the government of man."

TLS/MSs General Douglas MacArthur speechifying: "I desire especially to mention that provision dealing with the renunciation of war. Such a renunciation, while in some respects a logical sequence to the destruction of Japan's war-making potential, goes yet further in its surrender of the sovereign right of resort to arms in the international sphere. I therefore commend Japan's proposal for the renunciation of war. It points the way. The UNO, admirable in its purpose, great and noble, can only survive to achieve that purpose & those aims if it accomplishes just what Japan proposes unilaterally."
